Display Developments were tasked with a quick turnaround to fabricate a mammoth 119 bespoke clear Perspex® acrylic display cases for the Impossible Collection; the world’s finest collection of original DC Comics.
With a deadline for a private viewing event, the team at Displays only had 10 days for the fabrication and manufacture.
A number of different items were produced to best showcase the publications:
Seven different types of 5 sided Perspex® acrylic cases with 15mm Perspex® clear plinths and clear Perspex® acrylic comic stands.
Single and Double Sided Display Cases 1200mm x 1300mm in 5mm and 10mm clear Perspex® acrylic complete with internal comic display supports
Large Floor Standing Display Cabinets 1200mm x 2000mm high in 5mm and 10mm clear Perspex® acrylic each with 4 shelves and supporting 25x different display stands
In total, the above included 477 Special Comic Display Stands to display the 1,000+ comic collection.
Perspex® clear cast acrylic was chosen for its high light transmission ensuring clarity for the exhibit attendees, as well as a pristine edge finish after the material was cut and polished by the fabrication team at displays.
The private viewing took place at the prestigious London’s St Pancras Renaissance Hotel before embarking on a worldwide tour.
The Impossible Collection (DC Chapter) has taken over 16 years to assemble and the exhibition includes over 1,000 original comics featuring well know iconic characters such as Superman and Batman.
Many of the world’s rarest comics are on display including Action Comics No 1, featuring the first ever appearance of Superman worth in the region of £2.3m.
