Zone Creations’ love of Perspex® runs deep. The company has built a reputation for stretching the creative opportunities of the brand and their leading edge work is well established in the field of British contemporary design.
In recognition of the quality and service offered, Zone Creations Ltd are the first acrylic fabricator to have been awarded a Royal Warrant to Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II. Working with Buckingham Palace over the last 7 years, Zone have worked on a wide variety of projects in an environment where only the best is good enough.
With this Royal Seal of Approval, owners Kevin Self and Jamie Hale approached Perspex Distribution Limited about sponsorship to make prototypes for a new range of furniture that they were developing. This year, building on the successes of Zone Creations, the Self & Hale brand of furniture has been launched to show off what is possible in Perspex® acrylic. “Our brand aims to show our craft in a material where there is no hiding place,” says Kevin, rather poetically. “The translucency of Perspex® is water-clear and it is just so versatile,” he adds.
In celebration of Prince Philip’s 90th birthday in 2011, Self & Hale were commissioned to make a beautifully crafted coffee table and the team are currently working on a very exciting project to mark the Queens Diamond Jubilee.
If all of this sounds a little ‘celebrity’, Self & Hale also take on bespoke furniture commissions for private individuals. “For one interior designer in London’s Mayfair, we made a table featuring a Perspex® tube laid onto a mirrored base,” says Kevin. “Clear globes were hung within the tube and our biggest challenge was to make the threads from which they were suspended invisible so that the spheres appeared to float in space.”
