QD Plastics have recently completed a dramatic, eye-catching tower of Perspex® acrylic colours at Kilsyth Health Centre, Lanarkshire, in a project designed by Civic Architects.
A mixture of Perspex® acrylic solid, translucent and transparent colours were chosen by Civic Architects as they explain, “the colours mimic the coded, specific patterns of our DNA profiles as individuals within a community.” The overlapping Perspex® acrylic panels cast coloured shadows across the walls, courtyard and corridors of the building.
CAD drawings designed by Civic Architects provided QD Plastics with a variety of messages to be CNC cut into the materials linking the sculpture to local places and thoughts. The text on the sculptures was gathered in meetings with local groups in Kilsyth relating to their own relationships with their local area and the people within. The hope being that the messages would provide a positive distraction to patients, visitors and staff at the new health centre with the vertical structure encouraging viewers to look into the sky for reflection.
