Sustainability is the buzz word in the industry right now and as sign makers and end users probe options for materials with significant recycled content and greener credentials, PDL have been working hard with our manufacturing partners to increase availability of recycled products within our range.
Sign Makers, printers and fabricators are also increasing looking where their materials are sourced and how long their journey from factory to installation really is. Our focus on a unique range of UK manufactured products has led many specialists to seek our substrates.
Currently over 90% of our rigid substrates are 100% recyclable and over 80% of our range is manufactured in the UK.
We saw fantastic excitement for our new Green solutions from visitors to our stand at Sign & Digital UK last month where we launched a range of new materials both available now and others entering our range shortly.
One such product already available is Marpet Eco PETg, a 50% recycled PETg ideal for POS applications. Not only is clear Marpet Eco PETg ideal for retail fabricators seeking to use a more environmentally friendly product, but it is manufactured in Northern Ireland in a plant utilising 50% of their energy from sustainable sources including their own wind turbine and solar farm.
It also maintains all the benefits of standard PETg including the triple advantages of being suitable for digital printing, fabrication and thermoforming at relatively low temperatures without pre-drying. Marpet Eco PETg is available in 2mm and 3mm thicknesses from all PDL branches.
Also launched at the show was PERSPEX®re, a new cast acrylic made from 100% recycled MMA obtained from material scraps and production liquid waste. We currently stock this new range in 4 standard colours – Clear, Opal, White and Black. As with all PERSPEX® acrylic products, we also offer a bespoke colour matching service for specific requirements.
Alupanel Aluminium Composite is the UK’s only ACM brand. Using high end recycled LDPE to produce the core of Alupanl, all sheets are manufactured with at least 80% recycled content making Alupanel the ideal substate for sign makers seeking an eco-substrate for direct print, outdoor applications or 3D fabrication such as trays.
Even more products coming soon
To add to the range of greener options for customers, a new extruded acrylic promising up to 90% recycled content will be hitting the shelves very soon. Its excellent thickness tolerance makes it ideal for direct print and POS applications.
Sign makers and printers will also be excited about our first 100% recycled PVC Foam product – Palight Re-NU made in the UK. It has been developed with a co-extruded PVC format, providing a constantly reliable white surface to benefit printers, with a foamed PVC core.
Unrivalled range of UK manufactured products
As well as our growing range of recycled products, we believe that in many applications, the benefits of a material with a long lifespan can outweigh the impact of a recycled product that requires regular replacements. Many products within our range offer a 10 year external warranty thus saving resources and offering long term solutions.
To support customers to make the right decision about the materials they require, we have produced a new brochure summarise the environmental options available from PDL available to download from our online technical library.
